A Hike Across Fern Canyon in LA’s Griffith Park

52 Hike Challenge: Hike #4

What Happened

On Sunday, May 28 I hiked an unmarked trail across Fern Canyon from the Lower Beacon Trail to he Fern Canyon Trail.

The 2 mile hike was my 4th in the 52 Hike Challenge.

Red hawksbeard

A yellow path through black mustard plants led to a rocky trail and a maze of trees and springtime flowers.

Some of the flowers I saw along the way are shown below.

Challenges included a bear crawl up a steep rocky incline and then again under a fallen tree.

At the top of the rise, the unmarked trail connects to the Fern Canyon Trail, right next to the Beacon Hill look off.

Took the fire road back down to the Merry-go-round parking lot.

Cool Quote

“In nature, we become centered in our true selves, grounded in its healing touch, enlivened by the sensual, physical expressions of color, sound, scent, and visual magnificence.”

About us

One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, we were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years.

Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again! We are defenders of the night! We are Gargoyles! Scout troop short a child, Khrushchev’s due at Idelwyld… Car 54, where are you? Harlem that’s backed up.
